Frances Parton

Former Researcher (Documentation)

Frances volunteered regularly in the Department from 2007, cataloguing the coin collection of Commodore Matthew C. Perry, a nineteenth-century American naval officer and significant historical figure. She created a permanent online exhibition of the Perry Collection, together with a temporary display of its highlights. For much of 2009 Frances was employed as a researcher, helping with cataloguing and imaging the department's collection of Chinese coins.

Academic history

2005-9: Cambridge University, St Catharine's College, PhD in Medieval History. Thesis title The Liber Pontificalis and Franco-Papal Relations 824 to 891.

2003-4: Cambridge University, St Catherine's College, MPhil in Medieval History

2000-3: Durham University, St Cuthbert's Society, BA in Medieval Studies

Professional history

Frances spent six months volunteering with the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in 2005-6, assisting in the Visitor Services department. She then volunteered at the British Museum in the department of Prehistory and Europe from 2006-8, taking part in various registration projects. She is now Curator of Archives, Photographs, Film and Sound at the National Army Museum, Chelsea, London.
