Responsibilities

Eimear is responsible for the documentation of the Department's extensive numismatic collection. This process involves the identification, accessioning, imaging and general cataloguing of individual coins, medals, banknotes and other material. This information is stored in the Museum's collections management system, which Eimear collates and edits, and is ultimately made available to our online users through the OPAC search system.

Eimear studied for her BA in Ancient History and Archaeology and Biblical and Theolgical studies in Trinity College Dublin. Having spent her summers volunteering in archaeology in Wales, Belgium and Kephalonia, Eimear worked as a field archaeologist in the commercial sector in Ireland. While acting as research assistant to Dr Christina Haywood, Classics Museum, University College Dublin she conducted extensive research into the private and public collections of Classical material in the Republic of Ireland. During her time in University College Dublin she was also a tutor for the School of Classics mentoring 1st and 2nd year students in Greek archaeology. Eimear completed her Masters (with distinction) in Museum Studies in 2008 from the University of Leicester. Prior to joining the department Eimear held the post of Documentation Assistant in the Registration Department of the National Museum of Ireland and was based in Collins Barracks Dublin.
