Research Interests

Andy is working toward his PhD in the Archaeology Department, with a thesis entitled Currency of the Ostmen: Money and Economy in Late Viking-Age Ireland. He is jointly supervised between Mark Blackburn and James Barrett.

Prior to this he worked in the Department between 2008 and 2009. He was primarily concerned with processing and cataloguing the single-finds from the Viking site of Torksey. In addition, he was involved in bringing the 'Checklist of Coin Hoards from the British Isles c. 450-1180' up to date and with various other Documentation projects.

Academic history

2007-8: St Andrews University, MLitt in Mediaeval History. Thesis title Anglo-Saxon Silver beyond the Sea; Investigating Silver Use and Users in Viking Age Ireland.

2004-7: University of Bristol, BA in History.

Research Interests

Numismatics and Archaeology in Ireland and the Irish Sea region. More generally; Viking economies, the nature of Exchange and the Insular world.
