Queen Tamar of Georgia (1184-1213)

Georgia, Queen Tamar (1184-1213), copper irregular flan (Lang pl. 2.5), with three countermarks, 14.92g.

The bizarre camel-like shape of this coin is a result of the flan having ben roughly made from molten metal, as is typical of this particular issue.

(CM.47-1999)

Purchased from the Grierson Fund, 1999.
