Gaettens (sen.) who was in business partnership with the dealer RIECHMANN * Riechmann disappears after his last auction in 1934. Richard Gaettens (sen.), his associate in A. Riechmann & Co., survived the war and moved to Heidelberg where his son, Richard GAETTENS jun., began his own numismatic business. The auction catalogues are labelled as of "Richard Gaettens" (4-5, 7, 11) or "Richard Gaettens jun." (1-3, 6, 8-10, 12-13). Whether this is just editorial variety, or an indication of the father sharing the business with the son, is not known. (The son's later auctions and lists issued in Lübeck are all under the simple name "Richard Gaettens".) What purports to be the final auction of A. RIECHMANN & Co. (q.v.) was conducted in Heidelberg in 1959 by "Richard Gaettens", whether father or son, perhaps as an act of homage to the original firm, which had actually closed twenty-five years earlier. The contents were literary -- the library of the Sammlung Julius, whose coins and medals were sold under the name of GAETTENS. Gaettens jr. continued to use the name of A.
