Assignment: Two Temporary Audience Researchers for University of Cambridge Museums. This is a shared role to cover the period late August to late September 2013 (approx. 3 weeks)

Hourly rate: £9.44

The assignment will be conducted through the University of Cambridge Temporary Employment Service and the position will be based within the University of Cambridge Museums.

Background

University of Cambridge Museums (UCM), is one of only 16 museum services nationally to secure Major Partnership Funding from the Arts Council England (ACE). The Connecting Collections programme (CC) will transform access to the exception collections and research resources of the eight University of Cambridge Museums. Substantial digital innovation, high-profile exhibitions, imaginative learning programmes and effective marketing across the University museums and with wider cultural partners will reach and benefit audiences locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

The Assignment

We are looking for two temporary audience researchers to assist with a major UCM-wide audience research project. The assignment will be for approximately three weeks, between late August and late September, and will involve conducting interviews with members of the public in each of the University of Cambridge Museums, where possible using tablet computers to gather the data. Training will be provided by The Audience Agency, who are leading this project. The two researchers will together ensure that interviews are carried out at all venues during week days and at weekends. The University of Cambridge Museums comprises eight very diverse museums.

We are looking for confident, reliable, approachable, self-motivated people who are able to put visitors at their ease. Some familiarity with Cambridge's Museums and cultural venues would be desirable.

This project is part of the UCM's Connecting Collections programme, aiming to develop an integrated Cambridge-wide cultural offer, to enable wider and more divers audiences to engage with our collections and the research that lies behind them.

Hours of work

Both people will attend training together and prepare for the data collection during the first week or so (part time) - times/dates to be arranged.

The week of the data collections, we will be aiming for full time coverage (36.5 hours per week), ideally over seven days of the week. There will then be a period of time for downloading and tidying up the data. It is therefore essential that there is flexibility particularly at either end of the project.
