Sessional Gallery Teacher and Arts Award Coordinator (Fitzwilliam Museum)

(Part-Time 3 days per week)
Salary £26,264 - £30,404 pro-rata
Fixed term contract to 31 March 2015

University of Cambridge Museums (UCM), is one of only 16 museum services nationally to secure Major Partnership Funding from the Arts Council England (ACE). The Connecting Collections programme (CC) will transform access to the exception collections and research resources of the eight University of Cambridge Museums. Substantial digital innovation, high-profile exhibitions, imaginative learning programmes and effective marketing across the University museums and with wider cultural partners will reach and benefit audiences locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

The work pattern for this post will require two days as Sessional Gallery Teacher and one day as Arts Award Coordinator.

The key aspect of the schools work is contact teaching which takes place on the public galleries in direct relationship to works of art. School pupils of all ages from reception to ‘A’ level come for sessions that feed learning across a broad span of curriculum areas. Some areas are in heavy and constant demand and the successful candidate would work initially in the Egyptian and Greek galleries.

The collections within the UCM offer great scope for the Arts Award which can be offered at five levels. Part of this role will be to coordinate courses at the different levels using the different facilities and collections available.

You will be an experienced museum/community education professional, with a first degree in a subject relevant to the Museum’s Collections. You will have considerable and demonstrable practical experience of devising and delivering teaching, particularly within a museum, gallery or similar cultural environment. With excellent inter-personal and communication skills, you will possess the desire, drive and energy to work effectively with a broad spectrum of the community, coupled with imagination and empathy.

IT literacy, research skills, experience of writing for specific audiences coupled with time management and administrative skills and a practical understanding of budget control are essential.

This post will require some unsocial hours working.

Offers of employment will be conditional upon the satisfactory outcome of an enhanced DBS check. Whether an outcome is satisfactory will be determined by the University.
