Temporary Experienced Cleaner (Full Time) for a period of up to nine months

Start date: on receipt of approved Police Check*
Working Hours: A five day rolling roster pattern worked over seven days based on 36.5hr week
Hourly rate: £7.54

Interested candidates need to be available on 25 October 2012 to attend an interview at the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Training and Induction will be provided.

Role purpose

Reporting to the Team Leader, Operations and through them to the Visitor Services Manager, the role holder has responsibility for day to day cleaning throughout the Museum. This includes the cleaning of toilets and washrooms in both staff and public areas and some outside work.

Main responsibilities

  • Reporting to Team Leader, Operations and the Visitor Services Manager, cleaning the Staff Room, Keepers Rooms, corridors, toilets and washrooms and some parts of the Museum open to the public
  • Clearing litter and keeping tidy the areas surrounding the Museum, in particular entrances
  • Emptying outside bins and taking refuse round to the back of the Museum. Manoeuvring large cardboard waste bins around the back of the Museum
  • Compilation of laundry lists and collecting of laundry e.g. tea towels, hand towels
  • Emergency cleaning in galleries as a result of illness, spillages or floods
  • Occasional help with hanging or taking down of curtains, moving office furniture
  • Keeping updated on Museum codes of practice and cleaning schedules

Candidate requirements

  • Previous experience of working in a similar large building/establishment
  • An interest in and commitment to the work of the Fitzwilliam Museum and the cultural sector
  • Sound common sense and a good personal manner
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Be responsible individuals, well organised, flexible, adaptable and highly motivated and have the ability to interact comfortably with visitors
  • Excellent time keeping essential due to rostering requirements
  • Familiarity with COSHH regulations

*Please note: An assignment will be conditional upon the satisfactory outcome of a Police check. Whether an outcome is satisfactory will be determined by the University
