Opening from Falstaff, autograph manuscript by Sir Edward Elgar

Widely regarded as one of Elgar’s most accomplished and characteristic works, Falstaff is the largest instrumental movement written by the composer. It was completed on 5 August 1913 and was first performed at the Leeds Festival less than two months later, conducted by Elgar himself.
